Sweets: Eating without feeling guilty.
For many years people with diabetes were instructed to avoid sweets. Research has showed that this is not necessarily the case.
Total carbohydrate is what counts. It is not sweet per se that raises blood sugar levels. If balanced within a meal with other nutrition facts they are allowed. It is the total amount of carbohydrate intake you should take care of.
Don’t overdo empty calories. It is recommendable to consider sweets as a small part of your overall eating plan. Sweets have few vitamins and minerals and on the contrary they are rich in fat and calories. You would then get more empty calories without getting the nutrients.
