Symptoms
Some of the more frequent signs and symptoms of type 1 and type 2 diabetes are the following:
- Increased thirst
- Frequent urination
- Extreme hunger
- Unexplained weight loss
- Fatigue
- Blurred vision
- Slow-healing sores
- High blood pressure
- Frequent infections (i.e. gums or skin infections, vaginal or bladder infections)
Diabetes symptoms vary depending on blood sugar level. Some people may not experience symptoms initially. This is especially the case in pre-diabetes cases or with type 2 diabetes. With type 1 patients the symptoms tend to have a faster onset with increased severity.
Trying to recognize symptoms is important and it is good to remember that type 1 diabetes can develop at any age. However it typically appears during childhood or adolescence. Type 2 diabetes is more common and can develop at any age and it is often possible to prevent it.
